Alganon H. Muhammed, 22, originally of Concord Township, Delaware County, PA, most recently of Delaware, according to public records, "surrendered to police on January 26th," PPD stated in a release.
He reportedly was one of the two Black men with a white woman who were allegedly shoplifting at the Walmart located at 4301 Byberry Road on Thursday, Jan. 18, authorities said.
When the security guards attempted to stop the trio they fled "leaving behind a 3-month-old infant girl," as stated in the release.
The infant was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital by PFD paramedics for evaluation and she was reported to be in "good" condition, the police said. She has since been returned to her mom, who was not involved in the situation, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Following a week-long investigation by PPD's Special Victims Unit, Muhammed was identified. He has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Retail Theft, Criminal Conspiracy, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP).
Court dockets for this case and a mugshot was not immediately available.
Muhammed has civil actions filed against him in Delaware to terminate his rights as a father for a baby girl under a year old — possibly the infant he left at Walmart — it was originally scheduled for Jan. 19 and then moved to Feb. 15, but that case has since been removed from the public schedule.
The investigation into the remaining two suspects is ongoing.
The Philadelphia Police Department urges anyone with information about this incident to contact the SVU at 215-685-3260, submit a tip anonymously through the PPD’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477), or dial 911.
